Meet Lucie!
Members: Kara van der Meulen (chair), Max-Friso Schaap (secretary), Andrada Valea (treasurer), Aoibhín Quinn, Aurélien Schmitt
Lucie is a committee that comes into existence every 5 years, performs a sacred duty and then starts to hibernate until it is awakened again… As magical as the life cycle of this ephemeral committee may seem, so is the event it organizes. Lucie is the committee dedicated to organizing the Lustrum, or to put it in proper English words, the celebration of every round or half-round anniversary of our lovely association!
You may wonder how special this celebration is if it only takes place every five years. Well, let me tell you it is quite something! Taking place in November, the month where the FMF was founded, Lustrum means 3 weeks of diverse events tied together by a theme.
Now, to picture it a bit more realistically, the committee forms in January or February of the academic year preceding the upcoming Lustrum. From then on, they function as a regular committee with meetings, bonding activities, etc. There are no predetermined things - Lucie builds everything from scratch: they come up with a theme, the activities, the schedule, logistics and all those things one has to take into account when organizing events.
To illustrate my previous point, let me show you what the current Lucie is up to. The theme of our Lustrum is Star Wars! We also have a very good reason for it: although it’s the 65th anniversary, the board in charge will be the 66th (hope you’ll be able to make the connection). The activities we’re planning on organizing are: a cantus, movie nights, a borrel, an excursion and more!
If you’re reading this in 2024, you’re in luck, because this year we are celebrating our 65th anniversary (aka 13th Lustrum), hope to see you there! If not, well, I hope you will still be around when the next Lustrum happens (but please don’t fail courses just for that :-) ). Or maybe it’s you who’d like to organize it? In this case, I’m looking forward to seeing you at our transfer!
