Introduction

Hi! We are Physica; enthusiastic, open-minded physics and math students, who share an ambition to accomplish things together. Being students from various years and studies, we form a diverse group that collectively tackles challenges (regarding the committee, academics and even personal) in a safe, trusted and gezellige setting.

What do we do?

Our committee specializes in organizing Physics borrel lectures, a type of informal lecture that provides a nice environment in which the lecturers and researchers from our Faculty can present their research to interested students. Our primary target is to facilitate this communication by creating an informal event in which the students feel comfortable to ask questions and socialize with the presenter, especially during the borrel part of the lecture. This is a nice change of pace from the usual course-specific lectures. The last borrel lecture we hosted namely gave students the opportunity to listen to the fascinating roles and responsibilities of medical physics experts, while doing so with a beer and pizza at hand.

The way our committee works is pretty straightforward. We begin by researching potential speaker candidates, then contact them, and if everything goes according to plan we decide on a date and start working on the event organization. We work as a well-balanced group in which each member has a role and suitable tasks. This is how we are able to handle the promotion for the event, prepare snacks and beverages, create a budget, and reserve a location.

Why should you join?

By joining this committee you will be actively working and contributing towards spreading scientific knowledge and curiosity. This work translates into a physical event that people enjoy. You can observe how the informal environment you helped create bridges the gap between students and professors/speakers, which results in casual interactions that would otherwise not be present in usual lectures. By contributing to the organization of such lectures, you also gain useful insights into the inner workings and communications within your Faculty, while gaining valuable experience. And lastly, this committee is a welcoming and supportive group that would love to have you.
